McLean VFD Open House

Each October, the McLean Volunteer Fire Department opens its doors to the public to showcase our firehouse.  The event features fire safety education for the whole family, live rescue simulations, and fun activities for kids.  Open House is held in early October, which is the time period recognized around the county as the anniversary of the Great Chicago fire. Legend has it the fire was started by Mrs. O’Leary’s cow kicking over a lantern while being milked. The 2015 MVFD Open House will be held on Saturday October 10, 2015.

1970 Pirsch Antique Fire Engine

The 1970 Pirsch is the oldest piece of apparatus in the station. While it is still in the Fairfax County fleet of vehicles, it is primarily used as a ceremonial piece. It is also used upon request for children’s birthday parties, community events and the Apple Blossom Parade in Winchester, Va. If you would like to invite the Pirsch to your child’s next birthday, please contact us via the Request for Services page.

Santa on the Antique Fire Engine

During the holiday season, you may see one of our trucks transporting Santa around the neighborhood. Many in the community look forward to this event each year and the children enjoy seeing Santa. Santa’s schedule is usually posted on the website homepage in around Thanksgiving. Be sure to use our Live Santa Tracker to see when Santa is out and about in McLean.
